Purple Is the Color of My Favorite Union

SEIU WORKERS ANNOUNCE ENDORSEMENT OF MALLOY AND WYMAN

Workers from the Service Employees International Union, Connecticut’s largest union, held a press conference today to endorse Dan Malloy for governor and Nancy Wyman for lieutenant governor.
Today workers from every SEIU Connecticut local joined Governor Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Wyman to express support for their re-election.  Workers from locals 1199 New England, Connecticut State Employees Association (CSEA), 32 BJ, Connecticut Employees Union Independent (CEIU) and the Congress of Community Colleges (4 C’s) represent the more than 65,000 workers that belong to SEIU in Connecticut.  Workers range from health care workers, child care workers, sanitation workers, security guards and state employees.  On June 20, 2014 workers voted to endorse Dan Malloy and Nancy Malloy for re-election.

A worker from every local spoke about why an endorsement to Team Malloy Wyman is important to their communities.  “Governor Malloy is a tireless advocate for workers like myself,” said Matt Anderson, a security guard who was part of a successful union drive which organized about 450 state contracted security guards. “He stood with us in our fight to win dignified wages and health benefits and is clearly the best choice for all working families in Connecticut”.

Today’s speakers touted Governor Malloy’s accomplishments on behalf of Connecticut’s workers highlighting the minimum wage increase and paid sick day legislation.  Workers vowed to stand by Governor Malloy and work tirelessly for his re-election so Connecticut can continue moving forward.

“I will be knocking on doors, making phone calls and doing everything I can to support Governor Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Wyman because I believe deep in my heart that all working families in Connecticut will have a stronger, brighter future with them being re-elected,” home care worker Terrell Williams said.  “I’ve had the privilege of meeting and speaking with Governor Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Wyman and I can tell you that there is no team that is going to work harder for the working people of Connecticut than Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman.”

Dave Stevenson, a maintainer at Housatonic Community College, spoke on behalf of CEIU and Tim Riddle, a para-educator, represented CSEA.

Putting the "You" in "Union"

Machinists Union Endorses Malloy & Wyman
“The Best Choice for Manufacturing Workers”

Groton, CT  June 23, 2014 – Delegates of the Connecticut State Council of Machinists, representing more than 10,000 active and retired Connecticut workers, voted unanimously on Sunday, June 22, to endorse Dannel Malloy and Nancy Wyman for re-election as leaders of Connecticut’s state government.

The delegates, elected by co-workers from industrial sites around the state, including Pratt & Whitney, Hamilton Sundstrand, Electric Boat, Stanley Works and other IAM-represented workplaces around the state, heard from Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman on Saturday.  Lt. Governor Wyman stressed her and Governor Malloy’s commitment to sustaining and expanding manufacturing jobs in the state.  She cited the state’s Step-Up program, the new Innovative Manufacturing Fund, and successes like the re-opening of the Warren Corp.’s Stafford textile mill as examples of the commitment the Malloy Administration to manufacturing.

CT State Council President John Harrity said: “Five years ago, UTC told financial analysts, ‘we’ll expand anyplace but Connecticut.’  Earlier this year, Governor Malloy negotiated $400 million in tax credits to UTC in exchange for a new Pratt & Whitney World Headquarters and Engineering Center and $4.5 billion in UTC investments in the state.  I challenge anyone to find a better economic development deal in the country.  And that means jobs for us and for the next generation of workers.”

Harrity continued, “When Winchester was closing in New Haven, we could not get the Republican Administration at the time to even meet with us.  We’re not going to go back to those days.  Governor Malloy and Lt. Governor Wyman can work with both workers and their Unions, and business.  As a result, jobs are growing.  Let’s keep that going.”
CSCM Executive Vice President and IAM District 26 Directing Business Representative Everett Corey said: “Our endorsement is more than words.  Our activists volunteer in big numbers and get out to communicate with the members and their families.  We will be phone banking, door knocking, getting out mailings and handbills and giving our members the information they need to make an informed choice.  If workers, including our members, get the facts about the candidates, we’re sure they will choose Malloy.  We’re in it to win it.

AFT - Teachers! - Endorse Malloy (Not Pelto)

AFT Connecticut Endorses Malloy-Wyman Ticket for Re-Election

Governor Dan Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman Receive Support of 29,000-Member Union for Respecting Workers’ Rights

Hartford, CT – Today, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Connecticut announced its endorsement of Governor Dan Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman for re-election.

“AFT’s support is a testament to the progress we are making together in education, health care and public services,” said Governor Dan Malloy. "I firmly believe that teachers, health care professionals, and all workers should have the right to collectively bargain -- for good wages and benefits, due process and a voice at work. From the picket lines to the Capitol, we’ve stood together to protect workers’ rights and that won’t change. We won’t let Connecticut go down the dangerous path that GOP governors are leading states like Wisconsin down. I want to thank AFT for their support and for their hard work, day in and day out, to move Connecticut forward.”

“I am grateful to be working with AFT as we protect Connecticut’s working families. Honoring and supporting the voice of organized labor is a big part of how we continue to empower our working families, build our economy and provide our children with the best education possible,” said Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman. “We have more work to do, but we will continue to support our educators, health care professionals, public service employees, and all Connecticut workers as we continue our state’s progress. I am honored and thankful for AFT Connecticut’s endorsement.”

AFT Connecticut is a labor federation of over 29,000 teachers and school support staff, nurses and health care workers, higher education faculty and public service workers throughout the state. According to its website, AFT Connecticut supports candidates for public office who have a strong track record of fighting for workers’ rights, working-class families and the honoring of the right to collectively bargain.
