Eyes Wide Open Connecticut– Boots on the Ground

The Coast Guard Academy in New London will hold a Week of Mourning as they contemplate the events of September 11th ten years ago and all that has followed. On September 9th that will include a display of the boots of service members who have died in Iraq or Afghanistan who were from Connecticut. Also on display will be civilian shoes and posters of Iraqi civilians reminding us of the deeply human costs of war. The event will be open all day and is open to the public.

For A Good Cause: Children of the Fallen

The 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry of the Connecticut Army National Guard was called to duty most recently to Afghanistan in 2010.   On 25 May 2010, SSG Edwin Rivera was killed in action. After SSG Rivera’s death, The SSG Edwin Rivera Children’s Fund was established through Chelsea Groton Bank to benefit his two children, Rolando and Lorenzo.

Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and must be accompanied by payment. Fees: $125.00 per golfer - includes 18 holes of golf w/GPS equipped carts; lunch and dinner at the Whinstone Tavern.

If you don't play golf, you can attend the dinner (with raffle) for $40 per person.  The dinner will be at the Whinstone Tavern, 245 Hartford Road,New Britain, CT 06053
